Early spring is the perfect time for pruning in Southwest Florida. Pruning is the removal of plant parts to improve health, control growth and influence flowering & appearance.
Pruning your shrubs and hedges way back now will really improve the look of your landscaping because it will create thicker, lush foliage. Hibiscus is an example of the woody plants that need to be pruned back this time of year. Spring is the best time of year to do this because the plant will have the rainy season to recover and flourish.

This time of year your Southwest Florida lawn needs additional nutrients. It’s also a time when weeds are growing rampant. Now is the perfect time to apply a weed and feed. These products are designed specifically for this time of year and both fertilize (feed) your lawn and kill the weeds in your lawn.
Weed and Feed Products:
Green-up your lawn
Are slow release for extended feeding
Strengthen roots to prepare for rainy season
Get rid of pesky broad leaf weeds
Remember: It is extremely important to use the proper fertilizer designed for time of year. This will not only to produce the best results for you lawn, but also limit negative impact on the environment.
The Answer is: Yes. And this time of year we see a lot of it.
A common misconception exists that the more you water your lawn, the more lush it will be. By this same thinking, many people water far too much in Southwest Florida’s ‘dry’ season. Proper watering practices are a vital component of effective lawn maintenance. They also carry an environmental benefit of decreased water waste.
Too much water can, in fact, lead to a variety of lawn complications. Most of the time these result in additional costs to correct the problems.
Complications Include:
Pests
Shallow root systems
Invasive weeds such as Dollar Weed
Invasive diseases such as Fungus
Run-off and water waste
What you can do to prevent over watering:
Be sure the service maintaining your lawn is knowledgeable, can diagnose problems and recommend solutions or irrigation & pest control companies, if necessary.
Install rain sensors
Learn to recognize when your lawn needs water & when it is getting too much
Mow grass to proper heights
Inspect sprinkler systems regularly
Calibrate your sprinkler system
Water in the early morning hours
Follow watering restrictions
Please give us a call and we’d be happy to discuss your lawn watering needs!
Now is an excellent time to Mulch. Mulching this time of year as opposed to the summer months will give you the most benefit for your money because there is less chance of wash-out from rain and bleaching from the sun.
Mulching in plant beds should be done once or twice a year and be kept at 2-3 inches deep. The benefits of using mulch are both aesthetic and environmental.
Mulch:
Gives any property an instant ‘face-lift’
Retains soil moisture
Prevents soil erosion
Is a solution for shady areas where plants do not grow well
Is a solution for areas of the lawn that are difficult to mow or irrigate
Is an inexpensive alternative to rock and other ground cover
Helps to suppress weed growth
Moderates soil temperatures
Is natural & organic
Decomposes into topsoil, providing nutrients
There are many different types of mulch including cypress, pine straw, pine bark, and eucalyptus. Many come in a wide variety of colors and some have unique benefits. Call us today for a free estimate and let us help you find your mulch solution!
I want to start by thanking everyone who made this website possible. It means a great deal to have such enormous support from my colleagues and clients. In this blog I will post tips, announcements and anything I think might be useful to our clients. So, let’s get down to it…
As you may know, the cooler weather has arrived earlier this year and that has an impact on your landscaping. Growth has slowed and drier conditions are upon us. We’ve already begun cutting every other week rather than every week. Rest assured we will still visit each and every property every week to haul away debris, trim, blow off driveways and parking lots, etc.
"Knowing they keep an eye on weeds, bugs and anything else that may ruin my lawn lets me feel rest assured that I made the right decision in allowing another person to take care of my lawn.
Thank you CWG for providing a quality and affordable service to me and my family.-Josh Phillips, Cape Coral"
